Raising the Flag

We were delighted to have the Deputy Premier, the Honourable Troy Grant visit Dubbo Christian School this week to present us with a brand new State flag, which now flies proudly at the front of our school. Some of our student leaders and Mr Melville were on hand for the presentation.

During the visit we were reminded of appropriate flag protocol. Did you know that the Australian flag is flown from the left hand pole, the NSW flag on the centre pole and the school flag on the far right, when taken from the perspective of the people assembled and looking at them? The Deputy Premier also reminded students that a flag is an emblem which stands for its people, history and ideals. New South Wales has its own distinctive flag as well as its own State flower (waratah), gemstone (Black Opal), bird (kookaburra), fish (Blue Groper) and animal (platypus).
